The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said on Sunday that an additional 7,075 civilians have fled El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, bringing the total number of displaced persons to 88,892 since 26 October.
Since that date, the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) have taken control of El Fasher and reportedly committed atrocities against civilians, according to local and international organisations, raising concerns about further geographical division in the country.
In a statement, IOM said: ” Displacement Tracking Matrix estimates that 7,075 additional individuals left El Fasher in North Darfur (west) between 5 and 8 November due to worsening insecurity.”
The statement added that these figures are preliminary and may change as insecurity continues and displacement dynamics evolve.
It said the displaced civilians have fled to multiple localities, including Tawila, Mellit, and Saraf Omra in North Darfur.
IOM noted: “Since 26 October, the number of people displaced from El Fasher and surrounding villages is estimated at 88,892.”
The statement also highlighted that field teams have reported severe insecurity along the roads, which could make travel difficult, and that the situation remains tense and unstable, with ongoing insecurity and continuous population movement.
