The deputy secretary-general of Islamic Jihad, Mohammed Hindy, has warned that the United States’ proposed resolution on Gaza carries serious risks and overlooks key issues for the Palestinian people.
Speaking in remarks reported by Al Jazeera, he said the suggested Peace Council could become a form of legitimised occupation if its role and formation are not clearly defined.
He stressed that it is unacceptable to impose the Israeli and US vision on the Palestinian people under a UN mandate.
Hindy affirmed his movement’s definitive rejection of any international force in Gaza to replace the occupation, stressing that talk of a “Palestinian state” in the American project is ambiguous and does not guarantee the geographical connection between Gaza and the West Bank.
He added that the proposal uses broad language aimed at pleasing Arab and Muslim states, without offering real guarantees for Palestinian rights.
The resistance official warned that adopting the resolution in its current form would cause political and security risks and would not bring stability to the region.
He further explained that the proposal introduces new rules of engagement and threatens to divide the Gaza Strip. He reaffirmed: “We will not accept Gaza becoming an entity run by the Americans.”
