Twenty-seven Palestinians were killed on Wednesday in several Israeli airstrikes across the besieged and destroyed Gaza Strip, according to the civil defence spokesperson.
Mahmoud Basal, the spokesperson for the service, said that “27 people were killed in Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip Wednesday, including 14 in Gaza City”.
He said that 12 people, including three women and six children, were killed in an Israeli strike on the Zeitoun area east of Gaza City, while two others were killed in two separate strikes on the Shujaiya neighbourhood.
He added that “13 people, including four children and four women, were killed and dozens injured in an Israeli strike on Khan Younis” in the south of the Strip.
The Israeli army claimed that its attack took place after gunmen opened fire on its forces.
The ceasefire agreed on 10 October had reduced the intensity of the war, allowing hundreds of thousands of Palestinians to return to homes destroyed during the Israeli offensive. Israel also withdrew its forces from several areas, and the flow of humanitarian aid increased across the Strip.
However, the Israeli airstrikes did not stop fully. Since the start of the ceasefire, Israeli attacks have killed around 305 Palestinians, almost half of them in a single day last week.
