Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Wednesday expressed strong appreciation for Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s position that normalisation with Israel must be tied to the establishment of a Palestinian state.
In a statement carried by the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA), Abbas said he “values these courageous positions,” which he described as reaffirming Saudi Arabia’s “firm, steadfast, and unwavering commitment” to defending Palestinian rights and protecting Palestinian legitimacy.
Abbas said the Saudi leadership—headed by King Salman bin Abdulaziz and the Crown Prince—continues to make significant efforts to advance a two-state solution, which he called “the essential entry point to achieving a just peace that guarantees the rights of the Palestinian people and their holy sites.”
The Palestinian president affirmed his commitment to ongoing coordination and consultation with Saudi Arabia toward the shared goal of establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman reiterated Tuesday during a press conference with US President Donald Trump at the White House that Riyadh is ready to join the Abraham Accords “within a framework that guarantees a two-state solution and peace between Palestine and Israel.”
Trump has pushed for normalization between Saudi Arabia and Israel, but Riyadh has made clear that any agreement must include a credible path toward Palestinian statehood.
