Iran ends Cairo agreement with IAEA

Iran announced on Thursday that it has officially ended the Cairo Agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), which had set out a framework for renewed cooperation between the two sides.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said in a statement carried by the semi-official Tasnim News Agency that Tehran had sent a formal letter to the IAEA, stating the agreement is now “no longer valid and considered terminated.”

Araghchi added that the European troika —UK, France and Germany— along with the United States, had submitted a draft resolution that, in his words, disregards Iran’s goodwill, undermines the credibility and independence of the Agency, and obstructs cooperation between Iran and the IAEA.

On Thursday, the IAEA’s Board of Governors, which includes 35 member states, issued a resolution calling on Iran to “immediately” disclose the status of its stockpile of enriched uranium and provide information on atomic sites that were subjected to air strikes in June 2025, carried out by the United States and Israel.
