A large section of the separation wall in the West Bank collapsed after heavy rain, while parts of central West Bank roads also saw soil landslides. A video clip showed the complete destruction of part of the concrete wall.

The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth described the incident near the village of al-Ramadin, south of Mount Hebron, as the “most serious security incident” in the area. A long and main section of the wall collapsed entirely under the pressure of rainwater and mud. Israel considers this a “highly sensitive border area”.

According to the newspaper, the site lies close to what it calls “hostile villages”, within areas administered by the Palestinian Authority. It reported that the Israeli army had begun dealing with the situation, while what it termed the “Border Administration” was assessing the damage and the measures needed to repair the wall.

The newspaper added: “The army has been instructed to provide security measures at the collapsed section to prevent infiltration through the opening resulted.”
