The Israeli army is building a new separation barrier deep inside the northern Jordan Valley, at least 12 kilometres west of the Jordanian border. The project is expected to separate Palestinian villages from their farmland and cut links between them, following a pattern similar to the separation wall in the occupied West Bank.
According to Haaretz, the project has entered advanced stages. It includes a section about 22 kilometres long and 50 metres wide in the northern Jordan Valley.
The report states that the army plans to demolish all structures and infrastructure that lie along the planned route. These include homes, barns, greenhouses, storage units, water pipes, wells and farming areas.
The newspaper added that this part of the barrier is defined as Section C of a wider plan aimed at separating and isolating Palestinians in the Jordan Valley. It noted that the army has not yet submitted a full route plan, despite repeated requests.
