Egypt’s Foreign Minister, Dr Badr Abdelatty reaffirmed on Monday that Palestinians alone will administer the Gaza Strip once the Israeli genocide ends, stressing Cairo’s categorical rejection of any foreign authority or “trusteeship” governing the enclave.

Speaking at the Doha Forum in Qatar, the minister insisted that governance arrangements in Gaza “must be determined solely by Palestinians,” and that neither Egypt nor any other external power would assume control.

This came amid American proposals to form a Palestinian technocratic government operating under the supervision of a US-led executive peace council.

The Egyptian minister has also underscored the need for an international peacekeeping force to be deployed along the so-called “Yellow Line” in Gaza, referring to the demarcation separating areas under Israeli military presence from those outside its deployment.

The minister recalled that the UN Security Council passed a US-drafted resolution last November outlining a plan to end the genocide in Gaza and establish a temporary international force until the end of 2027.

“Egypt will not govern Gaza, and no foreign power will govern Gaza. Palestinians will govern themselves,” he stated.

Addressing the humanitarian crisis, the minister called for the opening of all border crossings to ensure the flow of aid to the besieged enclave, where around 2.4 million Palestinians face catastrophic living conditions. He reiterated Egypt’s refusal to allow the Rafah crossing to be used for the displacement of Palestinians, emphasising that the crossing would open only in both directions and confirming there is no coordination with Israel to facilitate the exit of Gaza residents.

Egypt has consistently rejected Israeli and American plans to forcibly transfer Palestinians from Gaza, warning that such proposals would have grave consequences for the Palestinian cause.
