Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has reaffirmed Russia’s willingness to help resolve the ongoing political crisis in Sudan, expressing Moscow’s readiness to play a role in facilitating dialogue between the conflicting parties.

Lavrov made the statement during a roundtable discussion with foreign ambassadors in Moscow on Thursday, where the topic of Sudan’s political instability was raised. He reiterated that Russia has consistently called for dialogue between the factions involved in the conflict and highlighted Moscow’s continued efforts to contribute towards practical steps for a resolution.

Responding to queries about the Sudanese crisis, Lavrov pointed out that Russia had previously encouraged the initiation of negotiations and presented proposals aimed at resolving the situation. He mentioned that these proposals, submitted by several countries keen on finding a solution, had not yet materialised into substantial dialogue.

Addressing the Sudanese representative at the meeting, Lavrov stated, “There have been proposals for your government to engage in discussions with those you term as external powers. Unfortunately, these attempts have not led to any effective dialogue.” He added, “Now is the time to focus not on condemning any party but on finding actionable solutions. Russia is ready to facilitate this process, and we already possess the necessary tools to do so.”

Lavrov also recommended that Sudanese authorities urge the Ukrainian government to cease sending mercenaries to Africa, adding to the broader diplomatic context surrounding the crisis.

This marks the latest effort by Russia to involve itself in resolving Sudan’s ongoing conflict, signalling Moscow’s broader interest in diplomatic solutions in the region.
