The Israeli army escalated its violations of Syrian sovereignty on Sunday, carrying out three new ground incursions into and around Quneitra governorate in south-western Syria.
According to Anadolu Agency, the latest incidents bring the total number of Israeli incursions since the beginning of December to 42, over a period of 21 days. Some of these incursions reportedly involved arrests.
Syrian sources said the repeated incursions form part of an Israeli strategy aimed at seizing additional territory and imposing a new geographical and military reality that goes beyond the historical disengagement lines.
On Sunday, the official Syrian news agency SANA reported that an Israeli patrol consisting of two military vehicles infiltrated from the Adnaniyah point in the northern countryside of Quneitra.
The agency said the forces set up a checkpoint at the intersection of the village of Umm al-Adham, linking it to the villages of Ruwayhina and al-Mushayrifa. Another patrol advanced west of the town of al-Rafid in the southern Quneitra countryside and fired randomly into the air.
SANA also reported that a third patrol, made up of five military vehicles, advanced into the village of Saida al-Hanout in the southern Quneitra countryside.
Despite the Syrian government posing no threat to Tel Aviv, Israeli forces have also carried out air strikes that killed civilians and destroyed Syrian army positions, vehicles, weapons and ammunition.
