Mohammed al-Hindi, deputy secretary general of the Islamic Jihad Movement in Palestine, said on Tuesday that Israel is continuing to delay and does not want to move forward to the second phase of the Gaza agreement.
Al-Hindi said the Israeli occupation is not honouring its commitments, despite the efforts made by mediators. He stressed that the weapon of the Palestinian people is a red line and cannot be handed over to the occupation or to any other party.
In remarks carried by Al Jazeera, al-Hindi said: “The weapon of the resistance will remain in the hands of the Palestinian people and will not be taken away under any circumstances.”

He explained that Islamic Jihad has shown flexibility in dealing with mediators regarding a truce with the occupation. However, he said Israel is still avoiding its obligations under the agreement and is seeking to block its implementation.
Al-Hindi also said that several countries have refused to take part in any possible international force in the Gaza Strip, so as not to carry out “dirty work” on behalf of the Israeli occupation.
He called on the mediators to apply real pressure on Israel to force it to fully implement its commitments under the Gaza agreement. He warned that continued Israeli delay undermines the chances of reaching a real and lasting calm.
