Israeli Hebrew-language Channel Kan reported on Wednesday evening that the mediating countries and the United States have reached an agreement for the Palestinian Authority (PA), working with a European Union team, to manage the Rafah crossing once it is reopened.
According to the channel, the agreed arrangements state that the Palestinian General Intelligence Service, led by Majed Faraj, will carry out the task alongside European personnel. The Europeans are expected to wear official uniforms or civilian clothes to conceal their identities.
Throughout the war, the Israeli political leadership has insisted, and continues to insist, that the Palestinian Authority will not be part of the “day after the war” in the Gaza Strip.
The two sides also agreed that the crossing will only reopen when it is possible to operate it in both directions. It will not be opened gradually in one direction only, from Gaza to Egypt, as Israel has demanded.
