Egypt has reiterated its firm rejection of any attempt to partition the Gaza Strip, with Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty saying such a move is “completely unacceptable” and will not be allowed under any circumstances.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Cairo on Thursday with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Kaja Kallas, Abdel-Aty said the two sides agreed on the need to accelerate implementation of the first phase of the Gaza agreement. He stressed in particular the importance of opening the Rafah crossing in both directions and moving quickly to launch the second phase, including the prompt announcement of the committee that will administer the Gaza Strip.

The Egyptian foreign minister said Cairo is also closely following the crisis in Sudan, which has been gripped by fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces. He reaffirmed Egypt’s complete rejection of any plans to partition Sudan or establish parallel entities, warning that such scenarios would further destabilise the country and the wider region.

Abdel-Aty told Kallas that Egypt is bearing a heavy burden as a result of hosting large numbers of refugees and underlined the need for greater international and European support to help share this responsibility.

On regional issues, he criticised international recognition of the self-declared Somaliland region, describing the move as a dangerous precedent that threatens regional and international peace and stability.

Addressing Egypt’s long-running dispute with Ethiopia over the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, Abdel-Aty said Egypt would spare no effort in defending its vital interests and safeguarding its rights to Nile waters.

The remarks underline Cairo’s continued opposition to territorial fragmentation in the region and its emphasis on political solutions that preserve state unity and regional stability.
