Dozens of international artists, including Cynthia Nixon, Mark Ruffalo and Ilana Glazer, have joined a letter signed by doctors, human rights activists and humanitarian organisations calling for an end to Israel’s systematic attacks on hospitals in Gaza. The letter also urges immediate and unconditional access for humanitarian and medical aid to the territory.
The letter, published by The Guardian, states that “Israel’s systematic attacks on hospitals and unlawful blockade have collapsed Gaza’s healthcare system,” It adds that “Through its policies and military activities, the government of Israel has deliberately inflicted conditions of life calculated to bring about the destruction of Palestinians in Gaza and then denied the very help that could save them.”
The first signatories of the letter included Wissam Hamada, the mother of five-year-old Hind Rajab, who was killed by Israeli fire in Gaza City in January 2024 while waiting for a team of Palestinian paramedics. Their ambulance was struck as it tried to reach her.
Her story is honoured in Tunisian director Kawthar Ben Hania’s latest film, The Voice of Hind Rajab, which has been nominated for an Academy Award.
