Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi said on Wednesday that Egypt categorically rejects any attempts to undermine Sudan’s security and stability, stressing that Cairo will not allow this to happen due to “the intrinsic link” between the national security of the two countries.

The remarks were made during a meeting in Cairo with Massad Boulos, senior adviser to US President Donald Trump for Arab and African affairs, according to a statement issued by the Egyptian presidency.

The meeting was attended by Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty, General Intelligence Chief Hassan Rashad, and the US deputy chief of mission in Cairo, Evania Sidrias. Discussions focused on a number of regional issues of mutual concern, with particular emphasis on the situation in Sudan.

Sisi reaffirmed Egypt’s support for all regional and international efforts aimed at restoring security and stability in Sudan. He underlined Cairo’s firm backing of Sudan’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, warning against any actions that could threaten the country’s security.

Egypt and the United States are part of the Quartet mechanism on Sudan, alongside Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which seeks to support efforts to end the conflict and restore peace and stability.

Sudan has been engulfed in a devastating conflict since April 2023, when fighting broke out between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces over the integration of armed units into the national military. The war has killed tens of thousands of people, displaced around 13 million, and triggered what the United Nations describes as one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.
