A private Hebrew-language broadcaster reported on Thursday that Israeli soldiers had stolen 250 goats from inside Syrian territory and moved them to farms in settlements in the occupied West Bank.

Channel 7 described the incident on the Syrian border as “exceptional”. It said a group of Israeli soldiers took a herd of 250 goats from Syrian land and transported them by trucks to several farms in West Bank settlements.

According to the report, the theft took place around two weeks ago. The soldiers allegedly called in transport trucks to move the herd. The incident came to light after a local farmer in Israel noticed dozens of goats walking along a main road at dawn and informed the authorities.

The channel did not specify the exact location inside Syria from which the goats were taken. Syrian authorities had not recorded any official report about the incident as of Thursday evening.

Channel 7 also claimed that the Israeli military police had taken disciplinary action against those involved. Measures reportedly included removing the team commander from his post, issuing a formal warning to the company commander, and suspending the entire team’s activities for a long period.
