Egypt has lodged a strong protest with Israel following an airstrike that targeted a vehicle in the central Gaza Strip, killing three journalists, according to a report by the Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth on Wednesday evening.
The report said Cairo expressed anger over the incident, which involved journalists working with the Egyptian Committee for Relief to the Gaza Strip. Palestinian sources stated that the journalists were documenting the establishment of a new camp for displaced Palestinians in the Netzarim area when their vehicle was struck.
An Israeli army spokesperson claimed that forces had identified “suspects operating a Hamas drone” in central Gaza and described the area as posing a threat to Israeli troops.
The strike in the Netzarim area brought the number of Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks on Wednesday to 11, amid continued violations of the ceasefire agreement, according to Palestinian sources.
A day earlier, the Egyptian Committee for Relief to the Gaza Strip published images showing preparations for the new camp, confirming that work was underway to build a large site intended to host displaced families. The committee said the project is part of ongoing efforts to support Gaza’s population by providing basic infrastructure and services to ensure a minimum level of stability and dignity for displaced residents.
