Iran has warned that any aggressive action by the United States against it could lead to uncontrollable consequences.
In a speech addressed to UN Security Council on Wednesday, Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, said the United States would be responsible for any outcomes from an attack.
Iravani said Iran “informs the council that it faces a clear American threat of using force against it.” He added: “We call for an end to all threats and illegal actions that destabilise Iran.”
The Iranian envoy stressed that “if any attack occurs, Iran will, under international law, take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty, territory, and people.”
Earlier on the same day, the speaker of Iran’s parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, told CNN that “Maybe Mr Trump can start a war, but he doesn’t have control over (how it ends).”
Ghalibaf also said that Tehran “is ready to negotiate with the US — but only if talks are “genuine.”
