Bassem Naeem, a member of Hamas’ political bureau, on Thursday called on Western media outlets to issue clear apologies after what he described as their strong defence of the Israeli occupation and attempts to present the perpetrators of genocide in the Gaza Strip in a positive light.
In a press statement, Naeem said the Israeli occupation itself had relied on estimates from the Gaza Ministry of Health, which indicate that around 70,000 residents of the territory have been killed during the war. He noted that these figures do not include people who are still missing under the rubble.
He added that detailed data issued by the Ministry of Health confirm that 71,667 Palestinians from Gaza have been killed by Israeli army fire since the start of the war until Wednesday. He said these figures have been confirmed by several international and United Nations bodies.
Naeem said: “Throughout months of war and genocide against the Strip, tools of political hypocrisy and misleading propaganda in the West, led by major media institutions such as the BBC, CNN, The New York Times and Fox News, among many others, have blindly defended the Israeli narrative.”
