Iran’s ambassador to the United Nations has accused Israel of killing four Iranian diplomats in an airstrike that targeted a hotel in the Lebanese capital, Beirut.
In a letter addressed to the UN Secretary-General and the presidents of the Security Council and General Assembly, Iran’s UN envoy Amir Saeed Irvani said the attack took place in the early hours of Sunday, 8 March 2026.
According to the letter, cited by the Iranian news agency Tasnim, Israeli forces struck the Ramada Hotel in central Beirut, resulting in the deaths of four Iranian diplomats.
“The Israeli regime carried out a deliberate terrorist attack on the Ramada Hotel in Beirut, resulting in the death of four Iranian diplomats,” Irvani wrote. The identities of the diplomats were not immediately disclosed.
Earlier on Sunday, the Lebanese Ministry of Health reported that an Israeli airstrike on the hotel killed four people and wounded ten others. Israeli authorities said at the time that the strike targeted leaders of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard.

The incident comes amid a rapidly escalating regional conflict. Since 28 February, Israel and the United States have been conducting military operations against Iran.
According to Iranian sources, the attacks have killed at least 1,332 people, including senior officials, and injured more than 15,000 others.
Iran has responded with missile and drone attacks against Israel, which Israeli authorities say have killed at least 13 people and wounded more than 2,000.
Tehran has also launched strikes against what it describes as US bases and interests in Gulf countries, Iraq and Jordan, some of which have caused casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure. Several Arab states have condemned those attacks and called for an end to the escalation.
