Air defence systems intercepted drones near the US embassy in central Baghdad early on Tuesday, according to widely shared footage.

Initial reports indicate heightened security measures and heavy aircraft activity over the area.

The group calling itself the Islamic Resistance in Iraq said it had launched drones towards US bases, vowing to continue its attacks. Media outlets also quoted Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as threatening to press on with operations until US bases in the region are evacuated and destroyed.

In Erbil, several explosions were reported, particularly targeting a military base. Preliminary information suggests the site was hit multiple times within a short period, amid intense aerial activity and a wide security alert.

There has been no official confirmation so far of casualties or the extent of damage. The escalation comes as regional tensions deepen, with increasing reciprocal attacks on US interests and bases across the Middle East.
