Iran has appointed former Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commander Mohsen Rezaei as a military adviser to Mojtaba Khamenei, according to Iranian state media.

The move marks Rezaei’s return to the core of Iran’s military decision-making apparatus at a time of heightened regional tensions.

Rezaei is considered a longstanding and influential figure within Iran’s military establishment, having served for years as commander of the IRGC, one of the country’s most powerful institutions.

In addition to his military career, he has held several senior political and economic roles, including positions within the Expediency Discernment Council and the Iranian government.
