US President Donald Trump said on Monday that targeting Iran’s infrastructure was justified, describing Iranians as “animals” in response to a question on whether such attacks could constitute a war crime.

Asked how targeting Iranian infrastructure would not be considered a war crime, Trump replied: “Because they’re animals.”

He added, addressing the journalist: “Do you know what a war crime is? A war crime is letting Iran have a nuclear weapon.”

Trump also said he was dissatisfied with the Iranian government and warned it would “pay a heavy price”.

He further claimed that the Iranian people become “upset” when they do not hear the sound of bombs, adding: “They want to hear the bombs because they want freedom.”
