A new survey by the Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research indicates a significant decline in public support for Israel in the United States, alongside growing divisions over the war in Gaza.

According to the poll, about one-third of American adults believe Israel committed genocide against Palestinians during the conflict in Gaza. Around 20 percent said they do not believe genocide occurred, while nearly half of respondents said they did not have enough information to reach a conclusion.

Among Jewish American respondents, approximately 30 percent said they believe Israel committed genocide, while 49 percent said they do not.

The survey was conducted between 11th June and 17th June 2026, and included 3,040 American adults, including an oversample of 1,022 Jewish Americans to provide more reliable estimates of opinion within that community.

According to the report accompanying the survey, public perceptions of Israel have shifted markedly since the outbreak of the Gaza war following the 7th October 2023 attacks.

The findings suggest that American public sympathy, which had been gradually moving toward the Palestinians since 2020, accelerated during the course of the war.
