Hamas Says Khalil al-Hayya received congratulatory call from PA vice president

Hamas said on Monday that Khalil al-Hayya, head of the group’s political bureau, received a phone call from Hussein al-Sheikh, Vice President of the State of Palestine, congratulating him on assuming the movement’s leadership.

In a statement, Hamas said al-Sheikh wished al-Hayya success in his new role.

According to the statement, al-Hayya said he remains committed to serving the Palestinian people and their cause, upholding what he described as the movement’s fundamental principles, and working to protect Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, and elsewhere.

The statement added that al-Hayya expressed his commitment to cooperating with Palestinian political leaders in pursuit of Palestinian unity in the face of what he described as challenges confronting the Palestinian people and their national cause.
