Egyptian star Mohamed Salah arrived in the Turkish city of Trabzon on a private jet on Wednesday evening to a huge welcome from fans after Trabzonspor announced it had begun negotiations to sign him.

Thousands of Trabzonspor supporters gathered at the airport carrying flares and chanting to welcome the Egyptian forward.

Addressing the crowd at the airport, Salah said he was overwhelmed by the reception.

“I just want to say I’m very happy to be here. Honestly, I find it difficult to describe how surprised and happy I am because there are 25,000 people here. I don’t remember ever receiving a welcome like this before,” he said.

Salah said he would do everything he could to achieve success with the club both domestically and in Europe.

“I’ve been successful with every club I’ve played for and I’ve always been a successful player. That’s what I have to do here as well,” he added.

Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan thanked the fans, saying: “Mohamed Salah is a global star, and today our supporters showed how to welcome world-class players. I salute them all.”

After the speeches, Salah left the airport with Dogan in the club president’s car.

Trabzonspor is scheduled to hold Salah’s contract signing ceremony at Papara Park, the club’s home stadium, on Thursday at 7:30 pm local time in the presence of supporters.
