Iran seizes barge for smuggling 382,000 liters of diesel

Iranian authorities seized a foreign barge in Gulf waters on Wednesday for allegedly smuggling about 382,000 liters of diesel fuel and arrested 11 foreigners aboard, state news agency IRNA reported.

IRNA said security forces launched an operation against the vessel after receiving a tip about the smuggling of petroleum products aboard a barge in the northern Gulf.

Iranian border guards in Abadan intercepted the vessel and seized 382,000 liters of diesel, the report said.

Eleven foreigners aboard the vessel were also detained, although their nationalities were not disclosed.

There was no immediate official statement from Iranian authorities providing further details about the incident.
