EU joins US-led campaign to isolate Iran financially: Treasury chief Bessent

The EU has joined the US-led “Operation Economic Outcast” campaign aimed at increasing financial pressure on Iran, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Friday, Anadolu reports.

“The European Union has officially joined Operation Economic Outcast and we appreciate their strong and early stance,” Bessent said on US social media platform X.

He said the US “stands firm with our allies” in seeking to prevent the Iranian government from using the global financial system “to fund its nuclear ambitions, weapons programs, and terror proxies.”

Bessent said the international community was sending “a clear message” to Iran.

“We will not stop until every remaining financial lifeline has been severed,” he said.
