UN says Israeli attacks kill 24 Palestinians in Gaza in five days

The UN said on Thursday that 24 Palestinians, including four children and a woman, were killed in Israeli attacks in Gaza over five days, warning that civilians remain unsafe nearly a year after a ceasefire was announced.

The statement was issued by the UN Human Rights Office in the Occupied Palestinian Territory amid continued Israeli violations of a ceasefire that has been in effect since 10 October 2025.

“There is no safe place, nor safe person, in Gaza,” the office said, despite the passage of nearly a year since the ceasefire was announced.

It said “24 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks between 28 Aug and 1 Sept, including four children and a woman, with 21 of whom were killed in air strikes.”

The office also said that operations carried out by Palestinian armed groups, reportedly backed by Israeli forces, were causing harm to civilians.

Preliminary information indicated that on 1 Sept, the Israeli military carried out a raid in the Al-Katiba area west of Gaza City, accompanied by Palestinian armed groups and under the cover of air strikes. The raid killed a three-year-old girl, a 13-year-old boy and a 31-year-old man, the office said.

The fourth victim was a 49-year-old woman who was killed while Israeli forces were arresting her husband, 51-year-old Muein al-Arbid.

The UN office said al-Arbid holds the rank of colonel in the Internal Security Service of the de facto authorities in Gaza.
