Iran rejects IAEA Board resolution on nuclear file

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi has rejected a decision by the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) Board of Governors to refer Iran’s nuclear file to the UN Security Council, for the first time in 20 years.

In a post on social media on Wednesday, Gharibabadi said US and Israeli attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities under IAEA safeguards had disrupted the inspection and verification process sought by the agency.

“They attack our safeguarded nuclear facilities, disrupt the normal verification process, and then use this disruption itself as a pretext to secure a decision from the IAEA Board of Governors,” he said.

Gharibabadi described the approach as “fabricated”, saying: “With these fabrications, you cannot make up for the failure of your policies and actions, nor achieve any result at the Security Council.”

Earlier on Wednesday, the IAEA Board of Governors adopted a resolution to refer Iran’s nuclear file to the UN Security Council and General Assembly, saying Iran had “failed to provide the necessary information and grant the required access” regarding its nuclear activities.

The IAEA has been denied access to Iran’s nuclear sites since US-Israeli strikes damaged them during a 12-day conflict in June 2025.
