One person was killed and three others were injured in a “US attack” on an Iranian commercial vessel in the Gulf near Qeshm Island in southern Iran early Sunday, according to a local official.

Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, citing Qeshm Governor Amir Teymouri, described the incident as an attack by the “US terrorist enemy.”

Teymouri said the vessel was struck at around 5 am local time (0130GMT) in the area of Hengam Island and the Shib Deraz coast of Qeshm Island.

No further details were immediately available about the vessel or the circumstances of the attack.

Separately, the UK Maritime Trade Operations said Sunday that a vessel transiting the Strait of Hormuz was struck by an unidentified munition, with no immediate reports of casualties or damage.
