Israeli forces raid Palestinian journalist’s home in northern West Bank

Israeli forces on Saturday raided the home of Palestinian journalist Ali al-Samoudi in the northern occupied West Bank, beat his son, and gave him one hour to turn himself in, according to local sources.

Al-Samoudi, 59, was not at his home in Jenin during the raid. It was not clear whether he would comply.

He was released on April 30 after spending a year in Israeli administrative detention.

Al-Samoudi said he had suffered severe weight loss due to food deprivation and accused Israeli prison authorities of abuse, torture, and denial of basic rights.

Israeli forces detained Palestinian journalists Sabri Mousa Jibril and Muath Ammarna on Thursday after raiding their homes in Bethlehem in the southern West Bank.

The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate documented 84 violations of journalists by Israeli forces and occupiers in August, including the death of one journalist in prison and the shooting of another.

The group said the violations included assaults on media crews, obstruction of their work, arrests and detentions, and attacks on journalistic equipment.

Since the outbreak of its genocidal war in the Gaza Strip on Oct. 7, 2023, Israel has intensified raids and arrests in the West Bank, alongside an increase in attacks by occupiers and demolitions of Palestinian homes and other structures.

More than 9,400 Palestinians are being held in Israeli prisons, including 370 children and 92 women, amid reports by rights groups that some prisoners have been subjected to torture and medical neglect, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Society.
