US ready to supply nuclear fuel to Iran if nuclear issue resolved, Energy Secretary says

US Energy Secretary Chris Wright said the United States would be prepared to provide Iran with nuclear fuel if the Iranian nuclear issue is resolved.

Bloomberg quoted Wright as saying: “We can supply fuel from outside the country.”

Wright linked the offer to Iran’s nuclear programme, which he claimed is aimed at developing a nuclear weapon, although Iran has repeatedly said it has never sought to acquire one.

“They could join the community of nations again and bring peace and prosperity to their people,” he added.

The comments come as the United States plans what has been described as “decisive strikes” against Iran’s underground nuclear facilities, after a “clear surge in construction activity” was detected this year near the Natanz nuclear complex, about 140 miles south of Tehran, CNN reported.

Last week, US President Donald Trump threatened to escalate military action against Iran, claiming it would be “bombed at a much greater rate” and “never be able to recover”. He also raised the possibility of striking the Pickaxe Mountain site after activity and movements were detected there.

“We may hit Pickaxe very soon,” Trump told reporters last week.

The Pickaxe Mountain site is located near the Natanz nuclear complex.
