Sudanese army says it has taken control of 11 areas in north Kordofan

The Sudanese army said on Thursday that it had taken control of 11 areas in North Kordofan state following fighting with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In a statement, the army identified the areas as Kajmar, Sharshar, Al-Buniya Al-Kariniya, Al-Qulai’at, Awlad Hazma, Maqouldat, Rishan, Al-Qa’a, Ghabat Al-Laqad, Al-Kukaiti, and the area surrounding Al-Mazroub.

The military said the advances followed intense fighting with the RSF and claimed to have inflicted significant losses on the paramilitary force before pursuing its fighters westward toward the outskirts of Darfur.

The army also said it had conducted extensive operations in areas west of El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan.

It said military operations would continue as part of its campaign to restore government control over territory and improve security. The army described the RSF as a “terrorist militia,” a characterisation used by the military but disputed by the RSF.

Earlier on Thursday, military sources told Anadolu that army forces had made advances on several fronts in both North and South Kordofan, taking control of additional areas.

On 6^th September, the army announced that it had captured Hamrat al-Waz, in the Jabrat al-Sheikh locality of North Kordofan.

The latest reported advances follow a series of territorial gains claimed by the army in North Kordofan since late July, including the capture of Bara and areas around Jabrat al-Sheikh and Umm Sayyala.
