Israeli drone blast kills two soldiers in Gaza, wounds others

Two Israeli soldiers were killed and several others wounded, some seriously, on Thursday after an Israeli military drone exploded near their unit in the Gaza Strip, Hebrew-language sources reported.

The wounded soldiers were transferred to Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon for treatment, where an Israeli military helicopter later landed, the sources said.

Israeli reports described the incident as accidental, but gave no further details about the circumstances or cause of the blast.

The incident comes as Israeli military operations continue in Gaza following the start of the war on 7th October 2023, including extensive ground operations and fighting across the territory.

According to Israeli military figures, 968 soldiers and officers have been killed since the start of the war, including 472 since the beginning of the ground operation in Gaza.
