Iraq’s national airline resumes flights between Najaf, Iranian airports

Iraqi Airways resumed its flights between the country’s Najaf International Airport and Iranian airports on Monday, according to Iraqi state media.

The resumption came after Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi’s “intensive efforts,” state-run Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

The move came after Iraqi Ambassador to Iran Yasser Abdul Zahra Al-Hajjaj said earlier Monday that Najaf International Airport would resume receiving Iranian flights, the INA said.

Earlier, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Oman and the United Arab Emirates suspended flights to and from Iran following new US sanctions on Iran’s aviation sector.
