Iraqi Hezbollah brigades threaten to bring down al-Zaidi government

Iraqi Hezbollah brigades threatened on Monday evening to “bring down” the government of Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi if it failed to work in the interests of the people, and warned that border crossings with countries involved in the air blockade of Iran could be closed.

Abu Mujahid al-Assaf, the group’s security official, said in a social media post: “We warn Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Faleh al-Zaidi and those behind him that any government that does not work in the interests of the people will be brought down by all means.”

He added that “the Iraqi people will celebrate on the 30th of this month the expulsion of US occupation forces and NATO from Iraq”.

“If the air blockade on Iran continues after the first of next month, our people will take a clear position, which could include closing the border crossings of countries taking part in the blockade of the Iranian people,” he said.

He also said the Islamic Resistance in Iraq would monitor Iraqi airspace to ensure it was not violated by hostile aircraft, warning: “We will issue a warning first and bring them down second.”

He added that the prime minister’s office “must not be a cashier for US violations” after 1st October.
