Pro-Iran Iraqi factions said on Wednesday that they are “not bound by any timeline or agreement” regarding the surrender of their weapons, as the Iraqi government seeks an understanding with the groups amid increasing US pressure.

Jaafar al-Husseini, military spokesman for Kataib Hezbollah, made the remarks during a ceremony held by the factions to mark the end of the US-led international coalition’s mission against jihadist groups.

“For more than forty days, the Islamic Resistance has engaged in negotiations to discuss the process of regulating the Resistance’s weapons, while reserving its right to respond directly to any US or Zionist breach or violation of Iraq’s sovereignty,” al-Husseini said.

“However, we have not received a response from the Iraqi government to this moment,” he added.

“Accordingly, the Islamic Resistance declares that it is not bound by any timeline or agreement that any government or political party has mentioned or may mention,” al-Husseini said.
