The United States on Wednesday provided Tunisia with security equipment worth about $1 million as part of a counter-terrorism assistance programme.

The equipment was handed over by US Ambassador to Tunisia Bill Bazzi, according to a statement from the US embassy.

The embassy said: “On behalf of the United States, Ambassador Bazzi formally transferred nearly $1M in U.S.-funded security equipment to Tunisia’s Ministry of Interior Directorate General of Intervention Units and Directorate General of the National Guard, strengthening Tunisia’s crisis-response and security capabilities as well as our enduring partnership on shared security priorities.”

The equipment will support Tunisia’s ability to train and certify law enforcement officers in crisis response and specialised security skills, helping to strengthen regional security and protect Americans and Tunisians, the embassy said. It did not provide details of the equipment.

US military and logistical support for Tunisia has increased this year. According to Tunisia’s Defence Ministry, the country received a US C-130 military transport aircraft in January 2026.

On 4 June, the United States handed Tunisia 48 Armored vehicles (HMMWVs) to strengthen its operational capabilities in protecting its land borders and combating terrorism, smuggling and organised crime.

The US embassy also said on 25 June that it had provided Tunisia with an advanced radiation detection system to be used at the port of Rades, the country’s largest port, in the north-east.
