Egyptian security authorities have launched an investigation into a Sudanese co-pilot after he was arrested at Cairo International Airport with “ice” drugs while travelling on a flight from Cairo to Port Sudan, according to Egyptian media reports.

Egyptian newspaper Al-Masry Al-Youm reported that Cairo Airport officers arrested a Sudanese passenger who works as a co-pilot for a Sudanese airline after allegedly finding ice and drug-use equipment in his possession before he boarded a flight operated by the airline he works for.

The newspaper said the co-pilot admitted that he was carrying the ice for personal use and had used his airline uniform and work permit to board the aircraft without being searched.

The authorities seized the drugs and equipment and filed a report on the incident. Egypt’s Public Prosecution ordered the co-pilot to be detained for four days pending investigations and referred him to the forensic medicine authorities for a drug test, according to Egyptian media reports.
