A crude oil tanker was struck by an unknown projectile while transiting the Strait of Hormuz on Tuesday, the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said Thursday, Anadolu reports.

In a delayed report, UKMTO said it received information from a verified source that the tanker was hit at 1709GMT on Oct. 6.

No casualties were reported, while the extent of damage to the vessel and any environmental impact remain unknown, it said.

UKMTO said authorities are investigating the incident and advised vessels transiting the area to exercise caution and report any suspicious activity.
