Only 37 per cent of Israelis believe their country won its war on the Gaza Strip, while 63 per cent believe an attack similar to the 7th October 2023 assault could happen again, according to an Israeli opinion poll published on Wednesday.

The findings were published by Israel’s Channel 13 in a poll marking the third anniversary of its war on Gaza, which began in October 2023 and has been described as genocide by Palestinians, UN officials and rights groups.

The poll was conducted by HaMadad and surveyed 1,013 people, with a margin of error of 2.5 per cent.

According to the findings, 37 per cent of respondents said Israel had won its war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip, while 13 per cent said the Palestinian group had won.

Meanwhile, 50 per cent said neither side had won or that they did not know.

Reflecting continued security concerns in Israel, 63 per cent of respondents said an attack similar to 7th October could happen again, while only 20 per cent ruled out such a possibility.

The poll also showed continued debate over an investigation into the Israeli failures surrounding the 7th October attack.

Some 54 per cent said they supported setting up an official commission of inquiry, with its members appointed by the Supreme Court president, to investigate the failures, while 33 per cent backed a political commission of inquiry appointed by the Knesset, Israel’s parliament.
