The Sudanese army on Thursday recaptured two areas, including a strategic military base, in the Blue Nile region following clashes with paramilitary forces, Sudanese media reported.
According to the daily Sudan Tribune, the army and its allied forces regained control of the Bakori military base, southeast of Damazin, the regional capital, on Thursday morning.
An alliance of the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North seized the strategic Bakori and Sarkam bases in late August in the Qeisan and Kurmuk localities, respectively, the news portal said.

Bakori, located about 70 kilometers (43 miles) east of Damazin, serves as the headquarters of the army’s 13th Brigade under the Fourth Infantry Division in the Blue Nile region, according to the report.
Abdelati Mohamed El Faki, commissioner of Kurmuk County in Sudan’s southeastern Blue Nile region, confirmed in a statement that the army had regained control of the Ouklili area in the northeastern sector of Kurmuk locality, as well as Bakori in Qeisan locality.
There was no immediate comment from the paramilitary forces on the report.
Sudan has been locked in a bloody conflict between the army and the RSF since April 2023, killing tens of thousands, displacing about 13 million people and creating one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises, according to UN reports.
