US President Donald Trump called Thursday for Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar’s resignation from Congress, accusing her of using a false name when she was sworn into office, an allegation her office has denied, Anadolu reports.
“Because she used a fake name to be sworn in, I assume she must IMMEDIATELY resign from Congress,” he wrote on his Truth Social platform.
Trump claimed the Minnesota lawmaker’s real name was Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, which shares a surname with her former husband, Ahmed Nur Said Elmi.
He further claimed that Omar had “openly admitted to FRAUD” and called on House Speaker Mike Johnson to recognize that her congressional seat had been vacated.

Omar has made no such admission, and no court has established that she used a fraudulent identity.
Trump’s remarks followed an Oct. 21 Justice Department court filing related to a federal search of Omar’s Washington, DC home that identified her as “Ilhan Nur Said Elmi, a/k/a Ilhan Abdullahi Omar.”
Prosecutors did not explain why they used the alternative name, and the filing did not establish that Omar had committed fraud.
“This is completely false. Ilhan Omar is her real name,” a spokesperson for the congresswoman told Fox News.
Federal agents searched Omar’s home on Oct. 12 as part of an investigation into possible false statements in immigration and citizenship records.
Omar, who became a US citizen in 2000, has denied wrongdoing and accused the Trump administration of using the investigation to intimidate her ahead of the Nov. 3 midterm elections.
