Saudi officials have urged US President Donald Trump’s administration to “give diplomacy a chance” before pursuing renewed military confrontation with Iran, amid concerns that another conflict could expose Saudi oil and energy facilities to Iranian missile attacks, according to Israeli news network i24News.
The report said Riyadh’s message to Washington followed a visit to Tehran by Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, accompanied by Pakistan’s army chief and Turkey’s intelligence chief.
The visit was reportedly part of a diplomatic initiative aimed at facilitating mediation between Washington and Tehran and reaching an agreement that could prevent another round of hostilities.
According to the report, Saudi Arabia is concerned that renewed US-Iranian military confrontation could trigger retaliatory strikes against critical energy infrastructure in the kingdom.
Meanwhile, Iran confirmed receiving a message from US Vice President J.D. Vance concerning the possibility of resuming negotiations.
Tehran said it had not yet responded to the American message, reiterating that Washington must first commit to seven conditions previously established by the Iranian side.
The developments come amid continuing regional diplomatic efforts to reduce tensions and prevent a renewed military escalation between the United States and Iran.
The reported Saudi appeal reflects Riyadh’s preference for a diplomatic resolution as regional governments seek to avoid the security and economic consequences of another confrontation.
