The Egyptian Airports Company announced on Thursday that it had raised alert levels and operational readiness at all airports under its management to deal with any emergency regional developments.

In a statement, the company said its chairman and chief executive, pilot Wael Al-Nashar, had ordered the heightened state of readiness and instructed airports to provide the necessary support to airlines in the event of flight schedule changes, alongside measures to rationalise energy consumption and spending.

The announcement followed a meeting of the company’s executive committee, chaired by Al-Nashar, to review operational developments and passenger and flight traffic levels in light of the current regional situation, the statement said.

The meeting stressed the need to maintain regular flight operations and operational safety, while strengthening coordination between airports to ensure a swift response to any new developments or emergencies.

On spending cuts, Al-Nashar called for a review of electricity consumption, better regulation of vehicle use and measures to reduce waste. He also instructed airports to draw up maintenance plans and rationalise resources according to the actual needs of each airport, without affecting operational efficiency or services provided to passengers.

He also highlighted the importance of the company’s upgraded operations centre as a key tool for monitoring airport operations, improving coordination between airports and supporting faster decision-making.
