Daesh reaches outskirts of Baghdad

February 29, 2016 at 11:46 am

An Iraqi security source has said that Daesh controls parts of the western areas of Baghdad following heavy fighting.

The source said that Daesh now dominates half the area of Dhari Gharbi in Abu Ghraib province near Baghdad, after the group infiltrated it from the direction of Fallujah and Karmah in Anbar province.

The security source noted that “anti-terror forces” imposed a curfew on Abu Ghraib province and closed the roads leading to it.

The Baghdad Operations Command said that it had foiled an attack by Daesh on areas west of Baghdad and killed several Daesh operatives, including two suicide bombers.

However, the official spokesman of the Sunni Popular Movement Sheikh Farouk Dhafiri said that Iraqi soldiers fled the area in civilian clothes before the attack, while army aircrafts that were hovering above disappeared.
