Jordan calls on King’s uncle to hand himself in

A criminal court in Jordan has ordered businessman, and uncle of the country’s King Abdullah, Walid Al-Kurdi hand himself in within ten days, local media has reported.

Al-Kursi who is living in exile in London, UK, is married to King Abdullah II’s aunt Princess Basma Bint Talal, who is still resident in Jordan.

In 2013, the 74-year-old was handed a 22.5-year jail sentence term and fined over 253 million dinars ($356.8 million) after being found guilty of corruption.

Local reports have said that Al-Kurdis assets in Jordan will be seized if he does not hand himself in before the deadline.

In 2017 Jordan filed an Red Notice for Al-Kurdi through Interpol; a request to locate and provisionally arrest an individual pending extradition.
