A pro-Iranian militia yesterday claimed responsibility for launching a missile attack on a US-led coalition base in eastern Syria.

The Islamic Resistance Group in Iraq said that it fired missiles at the US occupation base located at Syria’s Conoco natural gas field.

According to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR), four missiles originating from areas controlled by regime forces and Iranian militias struck the US base in the Conoco natural gas field. This coincided with the arrival of military reinforcements of the international coalition forces.

The rights group added that explosions were heard in the military base area, forcing the reinforcement convoy to stop before entering the base.

The UK-based SOHR said international coalition aircraft flew over the region and attacked posts of Iranian-backed militias in the villages of Tabyah Shamiyah and Marrat in the countryside surrounding Deir Ez-Zor, destroying rocket launchpads.
