Sudan’s Security and Defence Council held an emergency meeting in Khartoum on Tuesday, chaired by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, head of the Sovereignty Council and commander of the armed forces, to discuss security measures aimed at preventing a repeat of the recent El-Fasher tragedy in North Darfur.

According to a statement from the Armed Forces Spokesperson’s Office, the meeting reviewed the political, military, and humanitarian situation across the country and discussed “the necessary arrangements to prevent a recurrence of the crimes committed in El-Fasher.”

The council condemned the “grave violations” by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)—referred to by the army as “the terrorist militia of the Dagalo family”—against unarmed civilians, saying those actions had been denounced by the international community. It criticised the inaction of international institutions in enforcing UN resolutions on halting arms transfers to Darfur and lifting the siege on El-Fasher.

The meeting also addressed humanitarian challenges and security threats, as well as the operational readiness of Sudanese forces. Council members reviewed international initiatives to end the conflict and expressed appreciation for the sacrifices of Sudanese citizens, offering condolences to the families of those killed in what the army called the “Battle of Dignity.”

The Council further expressed gratitude to the United States and Massad Boulos, an advisor to the US President Donald Trump, for their “commendable efforts” to help address the crisis.

It called for continued mobilisation against the RSF and its foreign mercenaries, and instructed a specialised committee to prepare and oversee the government’s vision for humanitarian access, aid delivery, and restoring stability throughout the country.
